1. List the tasks you’ve worked on this week.
Met with Dr. Clinton to follow up on a project he pitched to me before the semester began
Weighed a number of possible contingent project options
Researched materials for possilbe contingent projects
Followed up with the coordinator of the suggested project, awaiting confirmation
2. Consider the progress you have made this week. Think about the concepts, issues, and difficulties you have encountered as well as any decisions you made during the process. Mark “X” on the items below that you reflected upon.
Items / Examples
□ Insufficient or inapplicable knowledge or skills
Being aware that I am not familiar with the design process/necessary knowledge
X Related prior experience
Using previous experiences to generate ideas for the design task
□ Feelings
Being aware of my own fears and excitement regarding the instructional design process
□ Attitudes
Examining the level of my commitment, open-mindedness, or responsibility
□ Taken-for-granted beliefs and personal values
Realizing the necessity to design my instruction toward people with socio-economic background to attend my design for different socio-economic or ethnic groups
□ Goals, criteria, and constraints of the project
Having difficulty generating a list of solid instructional goals
X Client/stakeholders/users
Considering the perspective of the clients, stakeholders, and the end users
□ Implementation context
Considering the economic situation of where the instructional project will be implemented
X Available time
Finding ways to allocate sufficient time to each design task
□ Available resources/budget
Using appropriate tools/equipment to develop the instructional module
□ Teamwork dynamic
Understanding how well you coordinate this project within the team
X Others (Please specify) Contingencies
Always having a 2nd and 3rd option in mind for the essential points/steps involved
3. For each item you checked above, describe any difficulties or concerns you encountered, the actions you took to deal with them, and your future plans in this particular area.
No problems or concerns at this point. As always, previous experience with designing and executing design projects for clients plays a huge role in how I approach the work I do for my IDT program. I look forward to digging into the course material for both classes this semester and weaving the new learning into the projects I am working on in and outside of our program.
I am also looking forward to hearing back from the primary client this week and am enthusiastic about generating an outstanding product for her. In the event that it would be necessary, while I don't anticipate such an issue, I have considered a number of contingency projects/clients and can easily pivot to one of them should the need arise in order to complete my assignment for this class with adequate time. I have found that contingencies at the essential levels of a project are absolutely crucial, which is why such considerations are baked in to all of the work I do.
4. Other thoughts about your project or any help you need (if any)?
Nothing except that I am looking forward to working on and turning in an excellent product.
I look forward to seeing the work everyone is doing this semester. :)
